So everyone keeps saying keep painting, well, I want to talk a bit about when to stop painting. I've learned this the hard way. Apart from messing up your health, it will certainly mess up your work.

STOP PAINTING WHEN:

1. You are hungry. That's a big one! Don't put off your meals. Your brain needs fuel, just like the rest of your body. If hungry - eat!

2. You are tired. I can't stress this enough. Unless you've got a really tight deadline and you're doing this short term, DO NOT PAINT when tired. I have to tattoo that one or something.

3. You've painted for hours on end. Get up, snack, go outside, go to the bathroom, but do not just sit and paint continuously. Stuff gets suspiciously fisheye lens-y :D (let's pretend that's a word).

4. If you haven't been outside in days. If you are itching to work so much paint from life, caricature people in the cafe, draw a tree in the park. Seeing new things, even as simple a face or a vehicle will bring back some creativity. Doing the same stuff over and over will not bring any progress.

5. If you haven't done anything fun in days. I do that one a lot. I'll get up work, eat (if I remember), watch an episode of something mindless, and then go to sleep. The best way to boost productivity is to separate work from life and to designate specific hours just like in any other job.

Those tips are definitely very valid for me so I hope that sharing will be useful to somebody :).

Life update

Hi everyone,

I'm incredibly sorry I haven't been active on Deviantart nearly as much as I would want to. I have discovered that posting my work online and scrounging for feedback has been so demanding that it has hurt my ability to create art I like and care about. So I took a big break from having a strong online presence.

If you want to reach out to me for paintovers or feedback or just to say 'hi' the best way would be to just write to me on Facebook. Here's my profile www.facebook.com/tsetsova . Don't worry, I won't bite, just send me a message, and I'll add you :)

I've been doing a lot of anatomy and perspective drills. Apart from Lulu, I haven't been painting much because often I feel like I'm just butchering my ideas because of how long and how difficult it is to get things right. So I've been trying to polish up my fundamentals before attempting any large scale paintings. I finally feel a bit less rusty :) So hopefully you'll see some more exciting things soon!

On the personal front, life hasn't been treating me too well. I had a very long and pesky flu, which I finally recovered from. But I've still been struggling to find full time employment in art. Everything I find is either unpaid or is an Art Director position, which I'm without a doubt not qualified for :D. And on top of that my landlord has decided he wants to sell our flat, so my boyfriend and I will have to find a new place. If any of you guys live in big cities, you can relate to how time consuming and expensive moving can be. So all in all, my life hasn't been going nearly the way I imagined after graduation. But hey, we gotta keep going, right?

I've been gone for a while because I've gotten a really pesky flu. I'm still doing studies - perspective and anatomy mostly lately, and have recently started picking up ZBrush. But that damn flu isn't going away.. :(

Anyway, staying too long in front of the computer gives me a headache, so I'm sorry if I'm missing out on messages and answering late.

To everyone that I give llamas to - don't worry, you don't have to thank me!  I just tend to give llamas to everyone whose profile I like for any reason really!

I'm sorry I might not thank you for the llamas either - sometimes that trips the spam filter, so it can take hours to answer to a all the llama messages :(. I really want to thank everyone though and I do my best to answer everyone.

Hopefully February will be a healthier and more productive month.. :D

Hi guys,

I've been active on DA since October and for the past few months, I've already reached more than 3000 views and 85 watchers. I know that to many of you that's probably not a lot, but it means the world to me.

And the best part of all of this, is how many wonderful friends I've made here! Thank you all so much!

I will be away for the holidays for the next month. I'm going to take this time off DA to concentrate of my family, on my health, and on my personal growth. I want to experiment and take some of the pressure of my art.

I hope 2014 brings us all joy, success, and lots of luck. Here's to being better artists and better people in the coming year :)
