So everyone keeps saying keep painting, well, I want to talk a bit about when to stop painting. I've learned this the hard way. Apart from messing up your health, it will certainly mess up your work.
STOP PAINTING WHEN:
1. You are hungry. That's a big one! Don't put off your meals. Your brain needs fuel, just like the rest of your body. If hungry - eat!
2. You are tired. I can't stress this enough. Unless you've got a really tight deadline and you're doing this short term, DO NOT PAINT when tired. I have to tattoo that one or something.
3. You've painted for hours on end. Get up, snack, go outside, go to the bathroom, but do not just sit and paint continuously. Stuff gets suspiciously fisheye lens-y
(let's pretend that's a word).
4. If you haven't been outside in days. If you are itching to work so much paint from life, caricature people in the cafe, draw a tree in the park. Seeing new things, even as simple a face or a vehicle will bring back some creativity. Doing the same stuff over and over will not bring any progress.
5. If you haven't done anything fun in days. I do that one a lot. I'll get up work, eat (if I remember), watch an episode of something mindless, and then go to sleep. The best way to boost productivity is to separate work from life and to designate specific hours just like in any other job.
Those tips are definitely very valid for me so I hope that sharing will be useful to somebody
